Toombs Co High School Athletics Year Review
Thursday, 23 May 2013

May 23—The Toombs Co High School 2012-2013 year in athletics was a good one according to Athletic Director Kevin Hill.

“ Overall it was a good year for our athletic teams. We have a lot of our student athletes involved in number of different sports. We started out the year with football, coming off a 2-8 season and improved to 7-3 and played in the mini game playoff. Both cross-country teams qualified for state competition and did well in Carrolton. The softball team had an improved year. Our competition cheerleaders qualified for the state tournament in Columbus and are very proud of their efforts.” Coach Hill said.

“ In the winter sports our boys basketball team had somewhat of a rebuilding year, with our girls team they were much improved and qualified for the state and made it into the first round. The wrestling team was one of our better sports teams of the year with Coach Ellington taking the team to state and had a state champion with Xavier Horne and finished third overall in the state.” Hill stated.

“Our baseball team did real well and made it into the elite eight before losing to Westminster. The boys soccer team got to the elite eight and lost to Westminster. The girls soccer team made it into the sweet sixteen, so our spring sports teams did exceptionally well. The swim team we had Jake Davis to qualify for state. We are proud of all of our sports teams and I hope they will continue to improve and strive to be as good as they can be.” Hill said.
