Lady Indians Are State Champions!
Monday, 20 May 2013

May 20-- The Vidalia Lady Indians shot a 150 team score Monday at Hawks Point Golf Club in Vidalia to claim their 2nd GHSA AA State Golf Title in the last three years.

ImageThe state champs for 2013 are (L-R) Kourtney Owens, Katie Dalton, Emma Peterson, Layne Carter and Coach Chad Barker.

Coach Barker has been the Coach for the both of the Lady Indians titles and says it's a tribute to the girls and the hard work that they put in. “These girls are out here everyday practicing and trying to get better and it has paid off. We had a couple of goals at the beginning of the year, one was to win region and the 2nd was to break 150 at the State Tournament and today we hit 150 right on the nose, but I’ll take a State Championship any day!”

Junior Katie Dalton shot a 1-under 71 to take the Low Medalist and Freshman Layne Carter carded a 79.

GAC was 2nd with a 159 team total and was led by future UGA Lady Bulldog  Dailey Tardy who shot 75 for the Lady Spartans.

ImageDalton who is a junior said that she knew she was playing well when she made the turn at only 1 over par. “I knew I was playing very well when I made the turn at only 1 over and it helped get me going because the back nine is usually my best nine.”

Barker believes the Lady Indian Golf program is something for not only the school to be proud of, but also the community.

“The girl’s golf program is really growing here and the girls are excited about it, not only do we have everyone from this team coming back, but we also have some 8th graders coming up who have seen some success, so it’s not only been good for the school, but also the city of Vidalia.”
