January 27--  Police in Mount Vernon are reporting the arrests of six people on drug charges.

Police Chief B.L. Horne reports a 22-year-old Ellenwood man, Isadore Rashaad Snead, III was apprehended after a police chase.  Snead attempted to outrun police in his car, then exited the vehicle and ran into a wooded area of Ailey with a large package under his arm.  He was caught by Officer Charlie Williams who found the package contained an estimated nine pounds of marijuana.  Snead is facing possession with intent to distribute charges.

In another case, Chief Horne says escapee Jermaine Atkins of Mount Vernon was captured at a residence on North Railroad Avenue and is also facing drug charges.

And four people charged with the sale of cocaine are William Wright, Jr., Jonathon Johnson, Demetrius Troup and Christopher Butler.  The Chief believes more arrests are pending in this case.

Chief Horne also reports no contraband was found in a search of Montgomery County school buildings Monday.  The school system reports dogs from the Chatham County Sheriff's office assisted Mount Vernon police in the search.
