May 7--  The Lyons City Council held its May meeting Tuesday night and agreed to start a $2,500 computerized work order system for the public works department which new city manager Jason Hall said is "direly needed." 

The council also agreed to pay half of a nearly $10,000 project to replace the roof on the Nell Brown Memorial Library.  The library will pay the balance.

It also agreed to help with repair and maintenance of a van used by the Toombs County Family Intervention Center.  The center helps at-risk young people and depends on the local United Way for its funding.

In another action, the council voted to exempt vendors from the city's occupational tax during non-profit events in the city like the Soap Box Derby and the Real Squeal.

The city will host a reception for the new city manager May 21st from four till six p.m. at city hall and invites local citizens to attend.
