RTCA Lady Crusaders Track Team Win State
Tuesday, 07 May 2013

May 7—The RTCA Lady Crusaders Track Team won the GISA Class A State Championship Saturday May 4th in Albany. The girls competed in the 3-day meet and were the overall champions.

(Front, L to R): Megan Orrel, Joanna Hendrix, McKale Yancey, Anna Sullivan, Katie Brigman; (Back): Natalie Alexander, Jada Thompson, Hope Denmark, Helen Yancey, Casey McDonald, Olivia Ferrara, Sydni Collins, Bradley Scott and Jaycie Shepard.

“ First I would just like to thank the good lord for the opportunity to be able to coach these young ladies. You can tell they have been raised in the right way and they come out and compete for each other. A lot of times we would have somebody that was a little bit banged up or injured this past weekend, but they knew they had to do it for their teammates. Almost every young lady on the team came out and ran their best time or jumped their best jump that they had all year.” Coach Thomas Smith said.

“ I give the five seniors a lot of credit they were the backbone of the team all year. Megan Orrel and Joanna Hendrix both tied for high points of the championships. Joanna Hendrix broke the state record in the triple jump. Anna Sullivan has had a hurt foot for the last couple of weeks and she was a real warrior for us, she competed and got a lot of points for the team. McKale Yancey came up huge for us in the hurdles and won both of her events. Katie Brigman has really stepped up and became a team player this year.” Smith said.

“ We have other girls who contributed to the win and are state champions. We have a great group of young ladies that are coming back next year and it is going to be a great opportunity for other girls to step up and take that leadership role.” Smith said.
