22nd Annual Southeast Ga Soap Box Derby

May 4—The 22nd Annual Southeast Georgia Soap Box Derby was held at Derby Hill in Lyons Saturday. The biggest field ever of 58 cars took part in the event. For the first time ever two separate divisions were part of the derby, the stock division and the new super stock division. The two winners and their families will travel to Akron, Ohio this July to represent this area in the Soap Box Derby World Championships.

“ We are excited to have two brand new champions that we are sending to Akron, Ohio on July 21st thru July 27th. In our Stock Division Triston Tharpe from Vidalia driving for Tumi is the Southeast Georgia Soap Box Derby Champion. The first ever Super Stock Division Champion for Southeast Georgia is Dusty Meeks from Soperton driving for Altamaha EMC.” Chairman Michael Williamson said.

“ I wish I had a count on how many volunteers it takes to run something like this. It is awesome to be able to rely on a community to come together with something like this and see it growing. It has just been an awesome year.” Williamson said.
