Toombs Moves On

May 4--  The Toombs County Bulldogs are advancing to the second round of the state AA baseball playoffs.

The Bulldogs won the opening series with the Dublin Irish Friday with wins of 5-3 in Game One and 12-1 in Game Two.

The Bulldogs will host Fitzgerald Wednesday at Jackie Jones Field in Lyons. 

The 4th-seeded Purple Hurricanes from Region 3AA upset the Number One seeded team in Region 4AA, Bleckley County, 5-3 and 2-1.

The time of Wednesday's playoff game in Lyons has yet to be announced.

Also Friday, Region 2AA's top seeded team, Benedictine, defeated Screven County 9-3 and 12-4.

The Metter Tigers, seeded 4th in 2AA, lost to Westside (Augusta) 3-1 and 5-3.

The first round games between Jeff Davis County and Harlem had to be postponed due to rain and were rescheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. in Hazlehurst.
