Mastercard Holders Alerted
Monday, 26 January 2009

January 26-- Remember last week when we aired this report from ABC Radio, "Credit card identity theft seems endemic this days.  This week, Heartland Payment Systems, a company that processes a hundred million credit card transactions a month, said it had been hacked bigtime."

Many Mastercard holders in the Vidalia area have cards whcih were hacked according to Freddie Thompson at Vidalia Federal Savings Bank.  "There's a company which has notified Mastercard they were hacked into last week, so Mastercard is notifiying the different banks that are effected.  There's potential these card numbers have been comprimised," he said.

According to Thompson, most banks are notifying their Mastercard holders of the problem and are issuing new cards.  If you aren't notified, he recommends you call your credit card company to determine if your card was on the compromised list. You can also check your account on line to see if there have been any charges made for which you can't account.
