John Daly in South Georgia Classic
Wednesday, 24 April 2013

April 24--   Two-time major championship winner John Daly has committed to play in the Web.com Tour’s South Georgia Classic presented by First State Bank and Trust Company.  The tournament will be contested this week at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga., April 25 - 28.

Daly, one of the most recognizable names in professional golf, recently played in the Texas Open and RBC Heritage on the PGA Tour.  He played in one Web.com Tour tournament last year and has played only one other Web.com Tour event this year, the Chitimacha Louisiana Open.  This will be his first time to play in the South Georgia Classic.

“This is a homerun for the South Georgia Classic to have John Daly competing for the title this week at Kinderlou,” stated tournament manager Joerdan Simpson.  “John will greatly add to the excitement for the fans and we know he will truly enjoy this great community event.”

The Classic is one of 25 events on the Web.com Tour that will be held throughout the U.S. and in four countries abroad.  Beginning in 2013, the Web.com Tour became the path to the PGA Tour, with all 50 Tour cards coming through the Web.com Tour for the first time.  Current PGA Tour stars who have competed in the South Georgia Classic include Jason Day, Ricky Barnes, Keegan Bradley, Gary Woodland and Jhonattan Vegas.  The Hospital Authority of Valdosta and Lowndes County will be the charitable recipient of tournament proceeds.

Tickets to the South Georgia Classic presented by First State Bank and Trust Company are only $5 and the full ticket price is donated to the purchaser’s charity of choice.  The 46-year-old Daly will be joined by other stars such as Todd Hamilton, Heath Slocum, Kevin Kisner, Edward Loar, and Patrick Cantley.  Tournament week kicks off today with the Pro-Am, followed by the four rounds of tournament play Thursday through Sunday. Gates open each day at 7:00 a.m. and kids 17 and under are admitted free with a ticketed adult.
