Father vs Son VHS vs Bacon Co
Tuesday, 26 March 2013

March 26--ImageThe VHS Indians Baseball Team will travel to Alma Tuesday to play Bacon Co in a 2AA region game. According to baseball historians in the state this will be the first time a father and son will coach against each other in a GHSA region game. Father Greg James for Vidalia and son Derrick James for Bacon Co.

" First thing that gets your attention right off the bat is you know they are going to be well coached bringing over a bunch of good athletes that can run it and throw it and swing the bats very well. A lot has been said especially down here about that issue father and son, but like I told our guys I am not going to be on the field and neither is he. He will try to get his people in the right places and so will I. Both of us are sitting at two wins in the region, so we are doing everything we can to scratch and claw for every inch we can get to get a win." Derrick James said.

" First of all I am real proud of Derrick he has worked very hard, he has come up and worked hard as a player and as an assitant coach, and now he has an opportunity to be a head coach and run his own program and doing a great job down there. To be honest I was hoping this day wouldn't come, I was hoping we wouldn't have to play each other, but I felt like when he got the Bacon Co job that there was a good possibility that they would move into our region and that's what has happened so we gotta play. I am not real happy about it as a father, but my job is to coach and get our team ready to play and we hope to go down and play well tonight. I know Derrick will have his squad ready and I think we will be ready. Both teams are fighting for a playoff spot so we are going to look at it as another game and take care of ourselves and improve and hopefully we can swing the bats better than we did last Friday night at Benedictine." Coach Greg James said.
