Coach Lamb Guest Speaker at Iron Viking
Tuesday, 26 February 2013

February 26--ImageThe guest speaker at the Treutlen Iron Viking Football Club meeting last week was Coach Bobby Lamb head coach of the Mercer Bears. Bobby Lamb played and later coached at Furman University before coming to Mercer to resurrect the football program. Lamb is the son of lengendary coach Ray Lamb and he is the brother of Hal Lamb the head coach at Calhoun High School.

" The thing that made me interested in Mercer was president Bill Underwood who is a dynamic guy. I saw his vision and where he wanted to go with the program, the sky's the limit at Mercer in Macon because we are located in the middle of the state and football is very important in this state. The high school coaches do an outstanding job and they produce very good football players." Lamb said.

" The first year we recruited 104 young men, that was very exciting to get them all to come to campus. You have a recruiting year, a practice year and then you start playing. The practice year was really good for us, we were able to teach the fundamentals and do some things that I had never done in football before, you couldn't play a game because the kids would have lost their red shirt year." Lamb stated.

" I really do appreciate him coming down and visiting with us, he has a lot of knowledge and a wonderful speaker. He talked about the business and athletic sides of how to build a program, just a really fun night and very enjoyable." Treutlen Vikings Head Coach Brit Ingle said.

The Mercer Bears will play their first game on August 31st at their brand new stadium on campus in Macon.
