February 24-- Two students from Southeastern Technical College’s Vidalia campus traveled to Clarkston to attend this year’s Student Leadership Winter Conference & Competition at Georgia Piedmont Technical College.

“There were well over 200 students that competed in a variety of events,” said Lance Helms, career services director at Southeastern Tech, who attended the event.

Members of Student Leadership Councils, the National Technical Honor Society and DECA were also able to attend a number of “leadership sessions” during the three-day event. These lectures included topics on communication styles, customer service and influencing behaviors.

“These events allow students to realize their leadership abilities and potential,” said Helms. “The sessions identify leadership traits and show students how they are to be used.”

The conference’s keynote speaker was Dr. Jabari Simama, president of Georgia Piedmont Technical College. Other high-ranking staff from the Technical College System of Georgia contributed to the leadership sessions.

The Student Leadership Council, with representation from throughout the student body, provides a channel through which students may exhibit leadership, voice concerns and enhance communication among students, faculty and staff. The Student Leadership Council also promotes programs and activities of interest to students.
