The Lady Barons returned to action this past Friday, (2/15) for their 2013 home opener against the Lady Eagles of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in non-conference play.

After a series of promising wins on the road on February 9th against Kentucky State (8-0), Clark Atlanta (12-4) and South Carolina State (6-5), the Lady Barons looked to make their home field advantage count as they searched for their 6th and 7th win of the season.

In the first fixture of their double-header, the Lady Barons took the lead in the second inning and didn't look back, scoring three runs in the third while leaving the Lady Eagles down by four runs going in to the fourth inning.  Despite the Lady Eagles making things interesting for their fans and closing the gap towards the end of the match-up, the Barons managed to secure the win.  The Lady Barons out hit their opponents by 12-6 and only recorded a single error.  The first game finished 5-2 in favor of the Lady Barons.

The Lady Barons got off to a slower start in the second game of the double-header, falling behind in the first inning with the Eagles scoring early.  Fortunately, the team showed persistence to score single runs in each of the following two innings to take the lead.  This lead would not be lost for the remainder of the fixture, with the Lady Barons adding three more in the fourth.  The Lady Barons again out hit their opponents 12-6 during the game. With two errors registered in this game, the Lady Barons were fortunate not give the opposing Lady Eagles a chance to snatch the game from them, as the Barons won 6-2.

The Lady Barons have started the season in excellent fashion, having recorded seven wins thus far.  They will return to action on Tuesday, (2/19) away for a double-header with Thomas University (GA).
