VHS Indians Region 2 AA Champions

February 16--ImageThe VHS Indians Boys Basketball Team won the Region 2AA Championship for the second year in a row Saturday at Brewton-Parker College in Mt Vernon. The Indians defeated the McIntosh Co Academy Bucs 64-46 in the region championship game. The Indians got off to a good start and led 19-11 at the end of the 1st quarter,and 29-24 at the half. In the 3rd quarter the Indians really turned it on and outscored the Bucs 19-9 and ran away with the win. Deshawn Holloway scored 16 points and Tra Hardy had 15 points to lead the way. The Indans go to 27-1 for the year and will play the Harlem Bulldogs Wednesday at 6:00pm at the H. Ralph Parsons Gymnasium in the first round of the state playoffs.Image
 
The VHS Lady Indians defeated the Toombs Co Lady Bulldogs in the consolation game at the Region 2AA Tournament at BPC Saturday afternoon in Mt Vernon 61-42. The Lady Indians played well from the start of the game leading 19-4 at the end of the 1st quarter and 33-9 at halftime. In the 3rd quarter the Lady Bulldogs came back and tried to make a game out of it outscoring the Lady Indians 18-9 to make the score 42-27 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The Lady Indians pulled away in the 4th quarter to get the win. Laura Vinson had another good game by hitting four 3-point baskets and scoring 14 points. Chynna Hodge also had 14 points, with Chassidy Byrd scoring 13 points. The Lady Indians will go on the road Tuesday to play Dublin at 6:00pm in the first round of the state playoffs.
 
The Toombs Co Lady Bulldogs will also play on the road Tuesday in Augusta against Laney.
