VHS Indians McBride Signs With Furman
Thursday, 07 February 2013

February 7--ImageVHS Indians all-state linbacker Nic McBride signed a letter of intent on Wednesday to play college football with Furman University.

" Furman University was a little bit closer, and I feel like their program best suits me, they have a great coaching staff. I feel like it will be my place for the next four years. Since I was younger, I have always loved and been around football, so I know that is what I've always wanted to do, Furman is such a great place, and Greenville is such a beautiful place. It was a difficult decision at first, but once I went up to Furman and visited, and got to look around, it touched me a lot, I just feel like that is where I need to be." McBride said.

" I feel excited for him, I was a walk-on, and ended up earning a scholarship, but he works hard enough, and has a little bit more athletic ability than I did, we are excited about him going to Furman, a great education along with the athletics. I don't think he was real interested in the big school, and the big classes, and getting lost in the shuffle. He wants go in and play, and that is what they told him, they are not expecting him to redshirt a year, and he is excited about that." Father Jason McBride, and VHS Indians assistant coach said.

" I think that this is a great place for Nic, make no mistake about it, he is a great football player, but this has as much to do about academics as anything, and that sends a message to all the rest of our kids. Furman is very fortunate and blessed to get Nic, and I think that he will be an asset once he gets on campus. He has had a great career here, and we have been very fortunate to have had him." VHS Head Coach Lee Chosmkis said.
