Barons Take Opening Series
Tuesday, 05 February 2013
February 5-- The Brewton-Parker College men's baseball team opened its 2013 campaign winning a three-game series against the Flames of Southeastern University.

Despite leading 5-0 going into the 4th inning, the Barons slumped to a disappointing loss in the first game of the series. In a closely fought contest, a few costly errors allowed the Flames to steal a victory over the Barons, winning 11-10.

The Barons came out revitalized the next day and won the final two games of the series. They put the strain of losing their opening match behind them as they took a 5-2 victory in the second game, and a resounding 12-0 victory in the third due to the run-rule being administered. In the second game, the Barons were led in pitching by junior Ryan Raymer, who struck out six batters and gave up five hits.

In the final match-up of the series, the Barons overwhelmed their opponents as they stormed to a 12-0 victory in seven innings of play. Outfielder Jon Kemmer and infielder Joe Chittester posted a .750 batting average for the game, both hitting homeruns to help seal the victory. Joel McLaughlin led the Barons in pitching with three strikeouts and one hit.

The Barons are scheduled to return to action on February 5th against Benedict College, and return to Mount Vernon on February 8th and 9th to take on Mid-Continent University in non-conference action. The first pitch is scheduled for 7pm.
