February 1--ImageIn area high school basketball action Friday night, The VHS Indians split a pair of games against the Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets in Hazlehurst. The Lady Indians came up just a little short in their comeback effort losing, 46-42.  The Lady Indians were behind by as much as 25 points in the game. Chassidy Byrd scored 16 points in the loss. The Lady Indians go to 13-10 for the year, and 2-3 in the sub-region.

In the boys game, the game was delayed 45 minutes to repair a broken rim. The VHS boys fell behind early and were behind by 2 points at the end of the 1st period, but came back and won by 15 points, 56-41. The Indians are the #1 seed in Region 2AA, and are guaranteed a spot in the state playoffs. The Indians were led by Tra Hardy and Deshawn Holloway with 13 points each. The Indians are now 22-1 for the season.

The Montgomery Co Eagles split two games at home with the Toombs Co Bulldogs. The Lady Bulldogs winning the girls game, 40-29. Deja Jones came off the bench to lead the Lady Dogs with 15 points. Precious Sneed had 13 points for the Lady Eagles in the loss.

The Montgomery Co Eagles beat the Toombs Co Bulldogs by six points, 55-49.The Eagles held the lead for most of the game by playing great defense. The Bulldogs were able to come back and tie it up in the 4th quarter, but the Eagles hit some key shots and held on for the win. Jordan White scored 14 points, Dorian Wright had 12 points, and Jared Quarterman had 11 points. Tomond Hampton scored 18 points for the Bulldogs.

The Treutlen Vikings won both of their games at home against the Wheeler Co Bulldogs. The Lady Vikings continued their great play winning 48-24. Nesha Blair scored 13 points, Brianna Snead had 12 points, and Jasmine Brown with 10 points.

In the boys game, the Vikings continued playing well down the strech, winning by 4 points, 64-60. Drew Gillis scored 19 points and Johnathan Madison had 13 points in the win.

In the GISA, RTCA went on the road to Stillmore to take on the DEA Eagles and the Crusaders won both big games. The Lady Crusaders winning, 45-38. Natalie Alexander hit a big 3 point basket with :25 seconds left to help seal the win. Sydni Collins had 17 points to lead the team in scoring. The Lady Crusaders are now in second place in the region.

The RTCA boys won 64-46. Rico Rogers scored 16 points to lead the Crusaders who are now in first place in the region.
