March 20-- Mrs. Iris Collins, age 89, of Lyons, died Saturday, March 18, 2017, at her daughter’s home in Lyons, after an extended illness. She was a native of Toombs County, living in Florida for fifteen years, and in Lyons most of her life. She worked with Lyons Manufacturing Company for many years as a seamstress. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and the Senior Adults Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Walton Collins and Annie Bell James Collins; two grandchildren, Carolyn Elaine Johnson and Donna Ann Johnson; and three brothers, James “Midget” Collins, Otis Collins, and Leroy Collins.
Mrs. Collins is survived by two children, Hazel Miller and Edward Johnson and wife Faye, all of Lyons; two brothers, Blackie Collins of Vidalia, and Bobby Collins and wife Agnes of Deland, Florida, one sister, Donnell Cartrette of Vidalia; three grandchildren, Dorothy Phillips of Guyton, Robert Cauley and wife Teresa Reidsville, and Denise Johnson of Glennville; three step-grandchildren, Sheila Dolan and husband Kim of Vidalia, Travis Moore and wife Amy of Lyons, and Angie Moore of Pooler; ten great-grandchildren; fourteen great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and her canine companion, Diamond.
The funeral service will be held Monday, March 20th at 1:00 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church with Pastor Glenn Russell and Reverend Chester Proctor officiating. Burial will follow in Harden’s Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 Noon until just prior to the service.
